Come to our AGM

29/4/2016

Who can come to the RSC AGM? You can!

It's normally a short meeting, half an hour or so, but you can hear a review of the past season and a preview of the new, enjoy a glass of something on the house, and contribute your ideas. Also, if you bought a 2015-16 Season Ticket, you can propose and vote on matters such as the 2016-17 ticket prices.

The meeting is in the Black Lion in Finkle Street, Richmond, at 19:30 on Wednesday 22 June.

Again, everyone is welcome. It would really help if you let us know that you plan to come.

Villiers Quartet - a fine end to a fine season

24/4/2016

The Villiers Quartet rounded off our 2015-16 season in style.

Sibelius's densely woven Voces Intimae quartet was unknown to most of the audience - as a show of hands established - but is a firm favourite of the Villiers, and one could see why. It was very different from the composer's more familiar symphonies and tone-poems. There followed a darkly lyrical single-movement work by the contemporary Spanish composer Granero, Noche del Amor Insomne. Beethoven's second Razumovsky quartet came after the interval, its long, soul-searching second movement taken at a confidently slow pace. The warm applause brought the artists back for a fizzy little encore, the Waltz from Britten's Three Divertimenti, written when he was just 23 years old.

And so, the musicians set off to drive back home to the Midlands, while we lucky listeners went home through the surprisingly chilly night, to reflect on a very good season.

Wine and cheese bargains for RSC members

18/4/2016

Ken Warne's of Richmond, who sponsored the excellent concert by the Albany Trio, have kindly extended their discount offer to RSC members until the end of April. That means 20% off a couple of fine wines - a meaty red Montigoli Ripasso Valpolicella 2013, which our Chairman swears is a good buy even without the discount, and a nice white, the Louis Jadot Chablis 2014 - and  20% off Blue Wensleydale cheese at Warne's deli counter. How's that for a balanced diet?

Remember to take your membership card. Thank you for giving our sponsors your business. With offers like these, that should be a pleasure.
