About the Richmondshire Concerts

Our venue

Picture
The Richmondshire Concerts take place in a light, airy ex-cinema (now the Influence Church) in Victoria Road, Richmond. It's the best classical music venue in the district: warm, with comfortable, raked seating, clear sight-lines and a much-praised acoustic. Seats are un-numbered. Concerts start at 19:30, and the auditorium doors open at 19:00. If you arrive before then, there is limited seating available in the foyer.

The venue is about 20 minutes by car from Leyburn or Darlington, 30 from Northallerton, Bedale or Barnard Castle, 40 from Thirsk, Ripon, Stockton or Durham. There is free parking nearby.
This map shows the venue, local car parks and restaurants.

Interval refreshments

Subject to any changes in Covid restrictions, concerts will be about two hours long, with an interval, in which wine, tea and coffee will be available.

Wheelchairs and Disabled access is available.

Wheelchair and disabled access to the auditorium is available.  For assistance, we will be very happy to help. Please contact the sales desk in the foyer. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet.

Seasonal Programme

Our seasonal Programme is posted out in August. To receive a copy, click the orange bar at the foot of this screen.

Season Tickets

Season Tickets normally become available when the Seasonal Programme is posted out, and may be bought at any time before the second concert of the season. A Season Ticket gets you six excellent concerts (seven, this season!) for £50. We believe they are by some way the best value subscription concerts in the area. Season Ticket holders may vote at our AGM and receive benefits including guaranteed seating and downloadable, free advance concert programmes (see below).

Concert programmes

We produce printed programmes for most concerts: they are packed with valuable information about the artists, composers and the works being performed, and they cost £1. Season Ticket holders may also download programmes free of charge five days before every concert, for printing at home or reading (between the works!) on an iPad or other tablet at the concert.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I don't know anything about classical music; what if I don't like it..?
    • Almost every film you see has a 'classical' score - so if you go to the cinema or watch videos you're probably enjoying classical music already, without even being aware of it.
  • I know a lot about classical music; what can you offer?
    • Our concerts have included performances by Northern Sinfonia, the Fitzwilliam, Sorrel, Belcea, Allegri, Maggini, Carducci, Benyounes, Doric, Brodsky, Barbirolli, Chiaroscuro and Prazak Quartets, Tasmin Little, Emma Johnson, Joanna MacGregor and many other famous ensembles and soloists. Our programmes feature established works, but also lesser known ones - most concerts contain something unusual.
  • Is there a dress code?
    • Please wear clothes.
  • Can I take photos?
    • No. Absolutely no unauthorised photography, video or recording is allowed at our concerts. You may occasionally see our official photographer quietly at work, with the approval of the artists.
  • Do you offer free throat sweets?
    • Of course we do! There's normally a large bowl at the ticket desk. If you have an itchy throat, please take as many as you think you'll need. Why don't all music societies do this?
  • How will I know when to clap?
    • Don't worry. Wait and see what other people do. It's normal at a classical concert not to clap between the various parts, or 'movements', of a piece. If you'd like to know what the movements are, buy a concert programme at the door, as it can add greatly to your understanding and enjoyment.
  • What about refunds? Or cancellation?
    • All tickets are sold firm. Refunds are only given if a concert is cancelled, and will be limited to the single-ticket value or the pro-rated Season Ticket value of the concert, as applicable. We will not be liable for incidental costs related to a cancelled concert, such as travel. We will make all reasonable efforts to contact concert-goers in the event of cancellation.
