Live concerts in Darlington, December–January

No Richmondshire Concerts now for two whole months - boo! But there’s plenty of wonderful music on the radio over the Christmas season, and umpteen amateur performances of Messiah to enjoy.

As a society which stages live professional concerts, we thought you’d like to know of some live professional concerts within 20 miles of Richmond, during December and January. Take a bow, Darlington Piano Society and Darlington Music Society. Their concerts below are in the Central Hall at the Darlington Dolphin Centre, with tickets at £15.

• Sat 27 Nov, 19:30: the wonderful Sacconi Quartet returns, with pianist Emma Abbate, and a programme of Rachmaninov, Shostakovich and Elgar. Tickets and information here.
• Sun 12 Dec, 15:00: rising piano star Patrick Hemmerlé brings an inventive and atmospheric programme of nocturnes, fantasies portraits and impressions. Tickets and information here.
• Sat 8 Jan, 19:30: Mathilde Milwidsky (violin) and Joseph Havlat (piano) perform a delightful choice of sonatas by Beethoven, Fauré, Ravel and Strauss. Tickets and information here.
• Sun 16 Jan, 15:00: pianist Lauren Zhang, 2018 BBC Young Musician of the Year, visits Darlington with a technically ferocious programme of works from Bach through to Lowell Liebermann’s Gargoyles. Tickets and information here. 

By then you should be ready for the return of the Richmondshire Concerts, with two performances in February: by the New London Chamber Ensemble and the Consone Quartet. Happy Christmas, meanwhile!
