Delphine Trio

The Delphine Trio brings together three passionate young musicians from opposite ends of the globe: Australian clarinetist Magdalenna Krstevska, Dutch cellist Jobine Siekman and pianist Roelof Temmingh, hailing from South Africa.

Founded in 2020 at the Royal College of Music London, the Delphine Trio showcases a combination of individual instrumental talent, intelligent and curious music-making, and a passion for diverse repertoire. After completing Masters’ degrees at the RCM, each member of Delphine Trio was also awarded an RCM Junior Fellowship – a rare combination.

The Delphine Trio were the winners of the 2025 Royal Overseas League Competition in the Mixed Ensembles Category in London, and have recorded at Abbey Rd Studios. In February 2024 they released their debut album ‘Adrift’ with Dutch label TRPTK which was praised in numerous publications for “shining a light on some beautiful hidden gems of the clarinet trio repertoire". The Delphine Trio were Artists in Residence at Leighton House London 2023-24. They are currently Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artists for the 2025-26 season.

Piatti Quartet

The Piattis are famed for their diverse programming and for passionate interpretations across the spectrum of quartet writing, and have commissioned and recorded some of the most major and impressive works added to the quartet canon in recent years.

Since their inception they have always had projects in the recording studio with critically acclaimed releases through Linn, Rubicon, Somm, Champs Hill, Hyperion, Delphian, Nimbus and NMC record labels. Their wide ranging discography and repertoire is thanks to their enthusiasm and curiosity in collaborating with a broad range of artists including some of the most recognisable names in classical music such as St. Martin’s Voices, Nicky Spence, Julius Drake, Michael Collins, Barry Douglas, Janina Fialkowska, Melvyn Tan, Ian Bostridge, Katherine Broderick, Adam Walker, Simon Callaghan and the Belcea Quartet. Accolades in 2023 include a Presto Music Award as one of the ‘Top 10 Recordings of the Year 2023’, a Gramophone’s ‘Editor’s Choice for the Month’ with NMC, a five star review from BBC Music Magazine with Delphian and in 2022 they were nominated for ‘Recording of the Year’ with both Limelight and Gramophone for their collaborative disc on the Hyperion label.

Contemporary music has been ever present in their repertoire and leaving a legacy to the quartet genre through commissions is one of the quartet’s central tenets. Major commissions and dedications have stemmed from Mark-Anthony Turnage, Emily Howard, Charlotte Harding, and Joseph Phibbs whilst they have premiered a mesmerising number of new works over the years beginning with Anna Meredith back in 2009. The Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Flagey Radio Hall Brussels, Wigmore Hall London, and the Aldeburgh Festival are some of the high profile occasions where new music has been presented and recordings of Turnage’s quartets 1-4 and Gavin Higgins’ chamber music has also been extensively lauded by critics.

The Little Song Party
Penny Appleyard soprano and Jonathan Delbridge square piano.

Penelope Appleyard has performed with many period ensembles and made her solo debut at Cadogan Hall with extracts from King Arthur, deputising for Dame Emma Kirkby. She has given recitals at Handel House, performed Purcell songs at St John’s Smith Square,  given recitals for the National Lute Society and Medieval and Renaissance Society, performed as a soloist with viol consort Newe Vialles, and is a member of the ensemble Dowland Works.

Jonathan Delbridge regularly performs at venues of all sizes throughout the UK. His varied and creative concert programmes have been enjoyed by audiences in the magnificent Royal Albert Birmingham Symphony Halls to more intimate settings such as his own village church in Somerset. He has a special interest in English piano music and will perform for us on his beautiful fully restored 1814 Broadwood Square Piano.

Never having been able to resist singing with a period instrument, Penny began researching all things Jane Austen and square piano swiftly following her first meeting with Jonathan in early 2024. This resulted in ‘Sense & Musicality’, happily coinciding with Austen’s 250th anniversary year. The programme explores the importance of music in Jane’s life, and her relationship with it. It also considers that her characters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood might represent the author’s own conflicting traits of romance and logic, and her views on all things musical and emotional.

The programme includes music we know Jane played and sang herself (some being scores found in the Austen family music albums, often in her own hand) as well as music and composers mentioned or alluded to in her novels. Also included are pieces from the soundtracks of much loved screen adaptations, quotes from her writing, as well as extracts from letters between Jane and family members, most often her beloved sister Cassandra.
